Tending the Garden

garden

Lately we have been busy making veggie garden beds and starting to plan out some landscaping for around the house. I never thought I would get into this but I love it. Besides making veggie beds I am plotting out to have an edible landscape, I want things not only to look well, I want it to be useful.

I also have been thinking about our son's spiritual garden a lot and having a lot of good conversations with him. One time I asked him who was God, and he said there are 2 Gods, Jesus and his dad God. Chris and I still crack up about it, the trinity is a huge concept to understand let alone explain to a 5 year old. Just the other day Chris asked Paul if he wanted to follow Jesus and he said, "No, I don't want to die."

I know our job as parents is to teach them in God's way and to model or live it as much as possible. It is hard. I fall constantly. The other day I was pulling back some sod and it would easily come up, but if there was a weed, that root ran deep in the ground. When I became a Christian, some sins peeled back, pulled up easily, but some are rooted so deep. I will never be the perfect parent, I can't do it, my children are going to be effected by my sin. But by God's grace they will believe and allow God to wash them clean with his redeeming power and love. I don't feel hopeless or anxious because I can't be perfect for my children, in fact I feel very free! Though I pray and strive to be the best parent I can be I have a Savior who has my back.

I am WAY impressed with your garden, it is AWESOME, and I can't wait to see more. I hope I can get into it someday, but right now, I know everything would DIE.
Also, wise words, you rock...and a hearty AMEN!
