We have been busy looking at options for Kindergarten. You wouldn't think it to be a tough choice, just find the local school and sign him up. But this area has many choices...Charter, Magnet, Neighborhood School, Home School.
First choice is a public charter school, which is like a private public school that usually is based around a certain teaching method and a much smaller school. I have found 2 that are close to the house that I like, one that I love! Problem, lots of people want to send their children there...so all on a lotto system. So we have put our name in and we will see. Once they are in they are in, and so is are their siblings.
Second Choice Arts and Leadership Magnet school. A magnet school is in the regular school district, it is usually used as a drawl to move into that area. This one uses creative methods to teach, like fractions are taught with learning music. Also a lotto system but school is larger and not as hard to get into.
Third choice the public school around the corner, everyone is welcome.
Last choice home school. I am just not in a place where I see it as necessary, but Idaho is the home schooling capitol of the US and curriculum is free through the public schools.
Chris and I want to find a good fit for our kiddos. An atmosphere that they feel comfortable in and are thriving. We aren't parents that are ever going to sit back and let someone else teach whatever to our children, we will always have an active roll in their learning. It have been interesting to visit these schools and take in their methods and atmosphere all public schools, but so different.

Fifth choice...TV School! Yes...TV School! Pick your show...let them learn "real life" from the boob tube. You can school them from the comforts of your own home while being able to do whatever you want.
The kids just get up...start the morning with some can't miss cartoons then you are off...think of the choices. You have new and old game shows (get that competitive edge in your kids going) then soaps (teach them how to deal with conflict and interpersonal relationships) finally, end with some action! Get their adrenaline pumping and the hand eye coordination raised a level (at least mentally).
Come to think of it, maybe TV School should be 2nd or 3rd instead of 5th....hmmmmm.
ha. CHRIS is RIDICULOUS.
TV school. ha!
Well, I feel ya. It is hard. In the end we weren't sold {and not ready to start writing checks} on the private school here, we don't really have any charter schools, and I was NOT ready to homeschool.
Public school it was, and we have been really blessed. We can walk to school, the teachers are all really great and Max's teacher in particular ROCKS.
Will they continue public school? who knows? I may homeschool in the future, but for now, like you, I am just not ready for the commitment.
Praying for you, and the choices and that you get into the charter school if it is the will of the Lord! :)
YA FOR LEARNING!
This may muddy the waters a bit (just what you need....), but have you considered a Montessori school? It would be a private school, I suppose, but I have learned SO SO SO much respect for the Montessori philosophy and method. If I knew then what I know now about Montessori, I would have found a good Montessori school for D&J instead of a faith-based school. They would really have benefitted from the individualized learning style, self-directed, etc.
Just another idea. If you choose to pursue it, let me know--there are some things to look for, to know whether they really do the philosophy or just have the Montessori name only. (Anybody can call their school a Montessori school; it's the teachers that make the difference.)
