Just say NO!

So, I was sitting watching Paul play at The Commons, an outdoor shopping center, when I overheard (eavesdropped) a conversation between a father and son. The son wanted a snowcone and the father did not think the son should have one, but instead of saying no he made up an elabrate story something about how only special child whos doctors prescribed them because of a certain sickness could have them. Huh? This is not the first time I have heard or heard of a parent doing this, and it is kind of sad....what happened to No? I caught myself doing this once, Paul loves to watch TV, and I would say no but he would go turn it on. So I unplugged it and said it was broken, but then I thought who am I really helping here? Myself, it is not easy to say no. Paul does not like to hear he can't do something, and will throw an exhausting fit.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it"
Proverbs 22:6

Isn't it interesting that Train it says in the footnotes of the NIV could also have ment Start? And It doesn't say teenager or adult there it says child. I have to win the no battles now! I have to teach him to honor his parents now, or when the time really comes for him what will happen? Well, the Bible clearly states what will happen right in this verse "he will turn from it" God I love you! Thank you for teaching me how to be a parent and help me to have the courage and strenght to honor you with my parenting.
